Product Name: DOXYZONE 50%
Type: Oral Water-Soluble Powder - Tetracycline Antibiotic
COMPOSITION
Each gram contains:
- Doxycycline Hyclate ...... 500 mg (50% w/w)
DESCRIPTION
DOXYZONE 50% is a high-concentration, broad-spectrum antibiotic powder containing doxycycline hyclate for the treatment of bacterial infections in poultry. Doxycycline is a semi-synthetic tetracycline with potent bacteriostatic activity against a wide range of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, as well as Mycoplasma species
Doxycycline is highly lipophilic, which allows it to penetrate tissues effectively, achieving higher concentrations in the lungs and infected tissues compared to blood plasma. This outstanding tissue penetration makes it particularly effective for treating respiratory infections
MECHANISM OF ACTION
Doxycycline exerts its bacteriostatic effect by binding reversibly to the 30S ribosomal subunit of susceptible bacteria. This binding prevents the attachment of aminoacyl-tRNA to the mRNA-ribosome complex, blocking the addition of new amino acids to the growing peptide chain and thus interfering with bacterial protein synthesis
Doxycycline is well absorbed after oral administration, with bioavailability reaching values greater than 70% in most species. It is widely distributed throughout the body due to its high lipid solubility and accumulates in liver, kidney, bones, and intestine, with enterohepatic recycling occurring
ANTIMICROBIAL SPECTRUM
DOXYZONE 50% is effective against a broad range of microorganisms:
Mycoplasma:
- Mycoplasma gallisepticum - chronic respiratory disease (CRD)
- Mycoplasma synoviae - infectious synovitis, respiratory disease
Gram-Positive Bacteria:
- Staphylococcus spp.
- Streptococcus spp.
- Clostridium spp.
Gram-Negative Bacteria:
- Escherichia coli - colibacillosis
- Salmonella spp. - salmonellosis
- Pasteurella multocida - fowl cholera
- Haemophilus paragallinarum - infectious coryza
INDICATIONS
DOXYZONE 50% is indicated for the treatment and control of respiratory and gastrointestinal infections in poultry caused by doxycycline-sensitive bacteria
Disease Conditions:
- Chronic Respiratory Disease (CRD) - mycoplasmosis caused by Mycoplasma gallisepticum
- Complex Chronic Respiratory Disease (CCRD) - mixed infections involving Mycoplasma and E. coli
- Colibacillosis - E. coli infections causing airsacculitis, pericarditis, perihepatitis
- Salmonellosis - fowl typhoid, pullorum disease, paratyphoid infections
- Fowl Cholera - Pasteurella multocida infection
- Infectious Coryza - Haemophilus paragallinarum infection
- Necrotic Enteritis - caused by Clostridium perfringens
- Ornithobacterium rhinotracheale (ORT) infection
- Secondary bacterial infections associated with viral diseases
DOSAGE & ADMINISTRATION
DOXYZONE 50% is administered via drinking water. For optimal results, fresh medicated water should be prepared daily.
Recommended Dosage:
- Poultry (Broilers, Layers, Breeders, Turkeys): 20-40 mg doxycycline per kg body weight per day (equivalent to 40-80 mg of DOXYZONE 50% per kg body weight) for 3-5 consecutive days
- Drinking Water Concentration (age-based):
- 1-19 day old broilers: 0.1 g DOXYZONE 50% per liter of drinking water
- 20-24 day old broilers: 0.15 g DOXYZONE 50% per liter of drinking water
- 25-30 day old broilers: 0.2 g DOXYZONE 50% per liter of drinking water
- Alternative Dosage: 200-400 g per 1000 liters of drinking water for 3-5 days
- Treatment Duration: 3-5 consecutive days. For chronic infections, up to 7 days may be required
Administration Guidelines:
- Calculate total daily water consumption based on flock size, age, and environmental temperature
- Dissolve the required amount of DOXYZONE 50% in a small volume of water, then add to the main drinking water tank
- For use in automatic water proportioners, prepare stock solution according to manufacturer specifications
- Prepare fresh medicated water daily; discard any unused solution after 24 hours
- Ensure medicated water is the sole source of drinking water during treatment
- For best results, administer over 4-8 hours; may withhold water for 1-2 hours before treatment to encourage rapid consumption
- The solubility of doxycycline is pH-dependent; do not use at concentrations lower than 0.23 g of powder per liter in drinking water with pH higher than 7.5 to avoid precipitation. Do not add acid to the medicated drinking water
- Do not store drinking water in metallic containers
DRUG INTERACTIONS
- Antagonistic: Do not administer concurrently with bactericidal antibiotics such as penicillins, cephalosporins, aminoglycosides, quinolones, and cycloserine
- Absorption interference: Tetracyclines chelate divalent or trivalent cations such as calcium, iron, magnesium, and aluminum. Concurrent administration of antacids, kaolin, pectin, bismuth subsalicylate, sodium bicarbonate, or feed containing high levels of these minerals may decrease gastrointestinal absorption, although doxycycline is least affected
- Compatible combinations: Doxycycline can be used concomitantly with tylosin, tiamulin, colistin, bacitracin, sulfonamides, florfenicol, and lincomycin under veterinary guidance
CONTRAINDICATIONS & PRECAUTIONS
- Egg production: Do not use in laying hens producing eggs for human consumption. Do not use within 4 weeks of the onset of the laying period
- Hypersensitivity: Do not use in animals with known hypersensitivity to tetracyclines
- Hepatic and renal disorders: Do not use in animals with hepatic or renal disorders
- Young animals: Use with caution in very young animals; tetracyclines may cause discoloration of teeth
- Keep out of reach of children
- When handling the product, avoid inhalation, oral exposure, and direct contact with skin or eyes. People with known hypersensitivity to tetracyclines should avoid contact with the product. Wear impermeable gloves and an appropriate dust mask when handling
- Store in a cool, dry place below 25-30°C, protected from direct sunlight and moisture
- Use within 28 days after first opening; medicated water should be used within 24 hours
ADVERSE REACTIONS
- At recommended doses, the combination is generally well tolerated in poultry
- Occasional mild diarrhea may occur due to intestinal flora changes
- Allergic reactions and photosensitivity reactions may occur in rare cases
