Mucolytic agent
COMPOSITION
Each 100 g contains:
- Bromhexine Hydrochloride BP ...... 5 g (5% w/w, 50 mg per gram)
DESCRIPTION
RELAXOZONE is a mucolytic agent powder containing bromhexine hydrochloride, a classic expectorant widely used in both human and veterinary medicine for the treatment of respiratory conditions characterized by thick, tenacious mucus .
Bromhexine hydrochloride is a semi-synthetic derivative of the alkaloid vasicine. It acts as a potent mucolytic agent that reduces the viscosity of bronchial secretions, facilitating their expectoration and clearing the airways .
MECHANISM OF ACTION
Bromhexine Hydrochloride:
- Acts directly on the bronchial glands to promote the release of lysosomes from mucus-secreting cells, causing depolymerization of mucopolysaccharide fibers in the sputum
- Inhibits the synthesis of acid glycoproteins in mucus glands and goblet cells, reducing the viscosity of secretions
- Stimulates the production of serous bronchial secretions, which dilute the existing thick mucus
- Enhances ciliary activity in the respiratory tract, improving the clearance of infectious material
Synergistic Benefits with Antibiotics:
- Bromhexine increases the concentration of certain antibiotics (especially tetracyclines, amoxicillin, erythromycin, and cephalosporins) in bronchial secretions, enhancing their therapeutic efficacy
- By clearing mucus plugs, it improves the penetration of antimicrobial agents to infected tissues
- Used as an adjunct to antibiotic therapy for faster clinical recovery
INDICATIONS
RELAXOZONE is indicated as an adjunctive treatment for respiratory conditions in poultry characterized by thick, tenacious bronchial secretions .
Disease Conditions:
- Chronic Respiratory Disease (CRD) - mycoplasmosis with thick mucus accumulation
- Complex Chronic Respiratory Disease (CCRD) - mixed infections with excessive mucus production
- Infectious Bronchitis (IB) - viral respiratory infection with mucus accumulation
- Newcastle Disease (ND) - respiratory form with mucus obstruction
- Laryngotracheitis (ILT) - to facilitate clearing of airway exudates
- Bacterial Pneumonia - to enhance antibiotic penetration
- Tracheitis and Bronchitis - to reduce mucus viscosity and improve breathing
DOSAGE & ADMINISTRATION
RELAXOZONE is administered via drinking water or mixed with feed. For optimal results, fresh medicated water should be prepared daily .
Recommended Dosage:
- Poultry (Broilers, Layers, Breeders, Turkeys): 1 g per liter of drinking water (providing 50 mg bromhexine per liter) for 3-5 consecutive days
- Feed Mixing: 1 kg per ton of feed for 3-5 consecutive days
- Alternative Dosage (body weight): 2.5 mg bromhexine per kg body weight per day
Administration Guidelines:
- Calculate total daily water consumption based on flock size, age, and environmental temperature
- Dissolve the required amount of RELAXOZONE in a small volume of water, then add to the main drinking water tank
- For use in automatic water proportioners, prepare stock solution according to manufacturer specifications
- Prepare fresh medicated water daily; discard any unused solution after 24 hours
- Ensure medicated water is the sole source of drinking water during treatment
- For best results, administer over 4-8 hours; may withhold water for 1-2 hours before treatment to encourage rapid consumption
- In acute respiratory infections, RELAXOZONE should be given alongside antibiotics or antibacterials for enhanced efficacy
DRUG INTERACTIONS
- Synergistic: Bromhexine increases the concentration of tetracycline-class antibiotics (chlortetracycline, doxycycline, oxytetracycline), amoxicillin, erythromycin, and cephalosporins in bronchial secretions, enhancing their antimicrobial activity in the respiratory tract
- Compatible: May be used concurrently with most antibiotics (macrolides, penicillins, aminoglycosides, fluoroquinolones)
- Contraindicated combination: Do not administer with sodium chloride (NaCl) solution; may cause incompatibility
CONTRAINDICATIONS & PRECAUTIONS
