A broad-spectrum anthelmintic oral solution containing Levamisole HCl for the treatment and control of gastrointestinal roundworms and lungworms in cattle, sheep, goats, swine, and poultry.
Product Name: WERMIZONE
Type: Anthelmintic (Dewormer)
COMPOSITION
- Levamisole HCl (BP Vet) ...... 15 mg
- Excipients ...... q.s. to 1 ml
DESCRIPTION
WERMIZONE is a broad-spectrum anthelmintic containing Levamisole Hydrochloride, a synthetic imidazothiazole derivative with potent activity against a wide range of nematodes (roundworms) in livestock and poultry
Levamisole acts as a nicotinic acetylcholine receptor agonist on the neuromuscular junctions of susceptible parasites
Mechanism of Action: Upon binding to nicotinic acetylcholine receptors on the muscle cells of nematodes, levamisole causes sustained depolarization of the muscle membrane. This leads to spastic paralysis of the parasites, preventing them from maintaining their position within the host. The paralyzed worms are then expelled from the gastrointestinal and respiratory tracts through normal peristaltic movements and mucociliary clearance
Levamisole is rapidly absorbed after oral administration and achieves therapeutic concentrations in the gastrointestinal tract, lungs, and other tissues where parasites reside. It is effective against both adult and developing larval stages of susceptible nematodes
INDICATIONS
WERMIZONE is indicated for the treatment and control of the following parasitic infections in livestock and poultry:
Cattle, Sheep, and Goats:
- Gastrointestinal Roundworms: Haemonchus spp. (barber's pole worm), Ostertagia spp. (brown stomach worm), Trichostrongylus spp. (black scour worm), Cooperia spp., Nematodirus spp., Bunostomum spp. (hookworm), Oesophagostomum spp. (nodular worm), Chabertia spp.
- Lungworms: Dictyocaulus spp. (lungworm)
Swine (Pigs):
- Ascaris suum (large roundworm)
- Oesophagostomum spp. (nodular worm)
- Strongyloides spp.
- Metastrongylus spp. (lungworm)
Poultry (Chickens, Turkeys, Ducks, Geese, Pigeons):
- Ascaridia galli (large roundworm)
- Heterakis gallinarum (cecal worm)
- Capillaria spp. (hair worm/thread worm)
- Syngamus trachea (gapeworm)
DOSAGE & ADMINISTRATION
For oral administration only. Use a properly calibrated drenching gun or dosing syringe for accurate administration. Shake the container well before use. Body weight should be determined as accurately as possible to ensure proper dosage
Recommended Dosage:
- Cattle: 7.5 mg levamisole HCl per kg body weight (0.5 ml per 10 kg body weight)
- Sheep & Goats: 7.5 mg levamisole HCl per kg body weight (0.5 ml per 10 kg body weight)
- Swine: 7.5 mg levamisole HCl per kg body weight (0.5 ml per 10 kg body weight) administered via drinking water
- Poultry: 15-20 mg levamisole HCl per kg body weight (1.0-1.3 ml per kg body weight) or 1 g per 4-5 kg body weight
Dosage Table (Livestock):
| Body Weight (kg) | Dosage (ml) |
|---|
| 50 kg | 2.5 ml |
| 100 kg | 5 ml |
| 150 kg | 7.5 ml |
| 200 kg | 10 ml |
Administration Guidelines:
- For poultry, WERMIZONE can be administered via drinking water. Withhold other water sources during treatment to ensure complete dosage.
- For swine, mix the calculated dose in drinking water. Ensure all pigs have access to medicated water.
- Animals maintained under conditions of constant worm exposure may require retreatment within 4-5 weeks after the first treatment due to reinfection
- For severe infections, veterinary advice should be sought for appropriate dosing programs.
WITHDRAWAL PERIODS
- Cattle (Meat): 5 to 10 days (depending on local regulations)
- Sheep & Goats (Meat): 5 to 10 days
- Swine (Meat): 8 days
- Poultry (Meat): 18 days
- Milk (Cattle, Sheep, Goats): Do not use in lactating animals producing milk for human consumption
- Eggs: Do not use in laying birds producing eggs for human consumption
PRECAUTIONS & CONTRAINDICATIONS
- Do not use in animals with known hypersensitivity to levamisole or other imidazothiazole anthelmintics
- Do not use within 14 days before or after treatment with organophosphorus compounds
- Do not use concurrently with pyrantel or morantel
- Do not use in debilitated animals or those with severe hepatic or renal impairment
- Resistance Warning: Frequent and repeated use of anthelmintics from the same class may lead to resistance. Cases of levamisole resistance have been reported in Teladorsagia, Cooperia, and Trichostrongylus species in sheep, and in Teladorsagia in cattle
- Operator Safety: Levamisole can cause idiosyncratic reactions in sensitive individuals. Do not eat, drink, or smoke when handling this product. Wear protective gloves. Wash hands thoroughly after use. If symptoms such as dizziness, nausea, vomiting, or abdominal discomfort occur, seek medical advice immediately
- Side Effects: At recommended doses, side effects are rare. Salivation or muzzle foam may occasionally be observed and resolves spontaneously. In swine infected with lungworms, coughing and vomiting may occur soon after treatment due to expulsion of worms
- Store in a cool, dry place below 25-30°C, protected from light
- Keep out of reach of children.
