DESCRIPTION

SS ZONE is a broad-spectrum antibiotic liquid containing Sulphadimidine sodium (also known as Sulfamethazine sodium), a short-acting sulfonamide antibacterial agent belonging to the sulfonamide class of antimicrobials [citation:1][citation:9].

Mechanism of Action: Sulphadimidine acts by competitively inhibiting the enzyme dihydropteroate synthase, which is essential for the bacterial synthesis of dihydrofolic acid [citation:3]. By blocking this enzyme, it prevents the incorporation of para-aminobenzoic acid (PABA) into the folic acid molecule [citation:1][citation:10]. INDICATIONS
SS ZONE is indicated for the treatment of bacterial and protozoal infections caused by organisms susceptible to sulphadimidine in livestock and poultry [citation:2][citation:6][citation:7]:

Cattle, Sheep, and Goats:

• Respiratory Infections: Bovine Respiratory Disease (BRD), pneumonia, bronchopneumonia, shipping fever caused by Pasteurella spp., Mannheimia haemolytica, and Haemophilus spp. [citation:2][citation:7]
• Gastrointestinal Infections: Colibacillosis, salmonellosis, enteritis caused by E. coli and Salmonella spp. [citation:7][citation:10]
• Urogenital Infections: Metritis, mastitis, postpartum infections [citation:7]
• Other Infections: Calf diphtheria (Fusobacterium necrophorum), foot rot, coccidiosis [citation:6][citation:7]

Pigs (Swine):

• Respiratory Infections: Atrophic rhinitis, pneumonia caused by Pasteurella spp., Bordetella bronchiseptica [citation:2][citation:10]
• Gastrointestinal Infections: Colibacillosis, salmonellosis, enteritis [citation:7][citation:10]
• MMA Syndrome: Mastitis-Metritis-Agalactia complex in sows [citation:2]

DOSAGE & ADMINISTRATION

For oral administration only. Shake the container well before use. Administer via drinking water or as a drench using a calibrated dosing syringe. Body weight should be determined as accurately as possible to ensure proper dosage [citation:4][citation:7].

Recommended Dosage:

• Cattle, Sheep, Goats (Drench): 1 ml per 3 kg body weight on the first day (loading dose), followed by 0.5 ml per 3 kg body weight for the next 2-5 days [citation:6][citation:7]
• Cattle, Sheep, Goats (Drinking Water): 1 Liter per 1000 Liters of drinking water for 3-5 consecutive days [citation:4]
• Pigs (Drinking Water): 1 Liter per 1000-1500 Liters of drinking water for 3-5 consecutive days [citation:4]
• Poultry (Drinking Water): 1 Liter per 1000-2000 Liters of drinking water for 3-5 consecutive days [citation:4][citation:7]

Administration Guidelines:

• During treatment, ensure animals have free access to clean drinking water to prevent crystalluria [citation:2][citation:7].
• For poultry, medicated water should be the only source of drinking water during the treatment period [citation:10].
• Prepare fresh medicated solution daily; discard any unused medicated water after 24 hours [citation:10].

PRECAUTIONS & CONTRAINDICATIONS

• Do not use in animals with known hypersensitivity to sulphonamides [citation:2][citation:7].
• Do not use in animals with severe hepatic or renal impairment, or blood disorders [citation:2][citation:7].
• Do not use in dehydrated animals or those not taking water [citation:2].
• Do not use in pregnant animals (consult veterinarian) [citation:2].
• Resistance Warning: Administering low doses or short courses may lead to microbial resistance. Results of antimicrobial susceptibility testing should confirm the need for sulphonamide use [citation:2].
• Drug Interactions: Do not use concurrently with methenamine, local anesthetics (procaine), or other para-aminobenzoic acid (PABA) derivatives [citation:2][citation:10].
